Malaysia MSC
I still remember in 1996, Malaysia have launched MSC project. In this region, Malaysia among the first country launched this project. The main reason is to generate another source of income for the country. Before this, Malaysia is an agriculture country, then it changed to industrial country and the Dr Mahathir launched this project so that Malaysia can be one of the leading country in ICT in this region.
Now we are in 2009,after 13 years this project launched, undoubtedly we have achieved many success and the government quite successful promote ICT to be used in government official business. Beside that more people now know the internet, know how to use it and this is good.
Anyway, sadly i like to say that we are actually far behind achieve the main goal. Do we have big gigantic ICT company that is made in Malaysia? How about the products?Of course there are the world class product produced by some ICT companies in Malaysia, but the numbers are so small.Do our product give big impact to the ICT world ?No,we dont right. So where are we actually?
Actually,we are just a consumer. Of course there are many companies in Malaysia that are capable develop software, design website and etc.But who develop the langguage of that software?Who develop the website langguage?Who develop the new technology like twitter, ajax, and etc? Most of these things are developed by none of the Malaysia company. One of the main reason most of Malaysia ICT company fail to emerge as a global market player is because they just consumed the technology and they spend very little in research and development.
Another factor that contribute to these failure is the quality of our students. As we know, Malaysia educational system is too examination oriented. This kind of system is not good for the student because it may cause the student afraid to think out of box.Thats why la we lack of creative product especially in ICT. We need someone who can think out of box and think beyond what other people think. We need to restructure back our educational system in order to have this kind of Malaysian.
